World Music Day
June 21st is recognized by France as World Music Day, or, Fete de la Musique. Today, almost
four decades after the day was first recognized in France, Fete de la Musique’s power is felt and
experienced in more than 1000 cities around the world where masses gather over their shared
love for music. The Embassy of France in India, French Institute in India & network of Alliances
Françaises in India and boxout.fm are thrilled to announce a multi-pronged online and offline
collaboration that will take place between June 15 and June 30 to celebrate the occasion
around the country and join in on the international spirit of Fete De La Musique.
The Embassy of France in India, French Institute in India & network of Alliances Françaises in
India and boxout.fm first collaborated in 2021 to build fetedelamusique.in, a unique, expansive
web radio program that took advantage of the remote limitations of COVID-19 by featuring live
broadcasts of performances by Indian and French musicians, interactive workshops and music-
creation sessions, curated playlists by Indian artists and selectors, community radio mixes
created by radio stations all over the world, a takeover of French radio station rinse.fm by Indian
hosts and audio interviews with premier French and Indian artists.
Building upon their previous collaboration, boxout.fm is taking the Fete De La Musique platform
to its next phase by curating and producing both online and offline content centered around
celebrating the power of music across the country. By tapping into their expertise in producing
high quality events, boxout.fm presents events around the country featuring Indian artists and
DJ’s playing a wide variety of music, including electronic, hip-hop, dancehall and more. Along
with these curated events, the platform allows any and all organisers of the Fête de la musique
concerts locally to register/showcase their events on this national platform, making it the one-
stop-shop for all information about this summer solstice musical extravaganza.
In addition, boxout.fm is producing a limited edition NFT (non-fungible token) release to
celebrate World Music Day. Facilitated on the Polygon network, the NFT is a piece of generative
art created by combining 40 images and layers––referencing music, art, community, dance,
instruments, France and India––into 1000 unique images. Any attendee or user of the Fete De
La Musique platform can claim an NFT by following a few simple steps to add a Metamask
wallet on their phone. The minting process of the NFT will go live on June 21 to celebrate and
commemorate 40 years of Fete De La Musique around the world.
The NFT minting platform, events produced by boxout.fm, additional events produced byFrench
Institute in India & network of Alliances Françaises in India around the country, a community
radio mix created by French Institute in India & network of Alliances Françaises in India, as well
as information around study programmes and opportunities will be available on the new version
of fetedelamusique.in. The site will serve as the definitive online hub to find offline opportunities
to celebrate World Music Day and online resources that strengthen relationships between India
and France.
